HIV Counselling and Testing (HCT) has evolved into HIV Testing Services (HTS), adopting a holistic approach that incorporates various services to improve patient care and outcomes.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course is designed to serve as a refresher workshop for previously trained HIV counselors, equipping them with updated information to ensure compliance with national guidelines. Participants will receive training on the proper use and testing of HIV rapid test kits, which will ensure accurate test results. This enhanced understanding will empower participants to provide patients with appropriate care and treatment.
Key components of HTS include:
- Counselling: Providing pre-test information about HIV and the testing process, along with post-test emotional support regardless of the results.
- Linkage to Services: Connecting individuals to appropriate HIV prevention, treatment, and support services.
- Coordination with Laboratory Services: Collaborating with labs to maintain Quality Assurance and ensure accurate test results.
- The 5 C’s of HTS: A key principle focusing on delivering Correct Results, highlighting the importance of training for accurate HIV
TESTING
Through these integrated services, HTS aims to identify individuals living with HIV and support them with comprehensive prevention and care strategies, enhancing health outcomes and treatment adherence. Proper utilization of rapid testing methods, such as finger prick testing, is crucial for reliable patient management.

- Students must have access to a phone or computer and the internet.
